New Email Account setup

This article is intended to assist in configuring a new email account. The instructions below will guide you through the account modifications for Microsoft Outlook 2000 - 2003 and 2007 and Outlook Express.

Microsoft Outlook 2007 Users

  1. Single left click on the "Start" button
  2. Single left click on "Settings" - "Control Panel" or just "Control Panel"
  3. Locate and double left click on the "Mail" Icon. If the "Mail" icon is not in the list, single left click on the "Switch to classic view" button in the left hand pane the locate the "Mail" icon and double left click on it.
  4. Single left click on the "E-Mail Accounts" button.
  5. Make certain the tab in the foreground is the "E-mail" tab. This is the default.
  6. Single left click on the button marked "New..."
  7. Select the option "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP" then single left click the "Next" button
  8. Select the check box "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" then single left click the "Next" button
  9. Select "Internet E-Mail" then single left click the "Next" button
  10. Enter your name as you want it to appear
  11. Enter your full email address in the "Email Address" field. Example: if your email address is jwaterbury@sperryrail.com change it to jwaterbury@sperryrail.com
  12. Select POP3
  13. Enter mail.sperryrail.com in the Incoming mail (POP3,IMAP) server" field
  14. Enter mail.sperryrail.com in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" field.
  15. Enter your full email address in the "Account name" field. Example: if your email address is jwaterbury@sperryrail.com then your username will be jwaterbury@sperryrail.com
  16. Enter the supplied password in the "Password" field.
  17. Make sure "Remember Password" is checked.
  18. Single left click on the "More Settings" button
  19. Change the Mail account name to <youraccount>@Mail.SperryRail.com
  20. Single left click on the "Outgoing Server" Tab.
  21. Be sure that the settings are checked for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
  22. Single left click on the "Advanced" tab.
  23. Change the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" port number to 5533
  24. Single left click on "OK" button.
  25. Single left click on the "Next" button.
  26. Single left click on the "Finish" button.
  27. Single left click on the "Close" button

The settings should now be correct for your new account.


Microsoft Outlook 2003 Users
  1. Single left click on the "Start" button
  2. Single left click on "Settings" - "Control Panel" or just "Control Panel"
  3. Locate and double left click on the "Mail" Icon. If the "Mail" icon is not in the list, single left click on the
    "Switch to classic view" button in the left hand pane the locate the "Mail" icon and double left click on it.
  4. Single left click on the "E-Mail Accounts" button.
  5. Single left click on the "Add a new e-mail account" radio button to select it.
  6. Sinlge left click on the "Next" button.
  7. Select "POP3" the single left click on the "Next" button.
  8. Enter your name as you want it to appear
  9. Enter your full email address in the "Email Address" field. Example: if your email address is jwaterbury@sperryrail.com change it to jwaterbury@sperryrail.com
  10. Enter mail.sperryrail.com in the Incoming mail (POP3,IMAP) server" field
  11. Enter mail.sperryrail.com in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" field.
  12. Enter your full email address in the "Account name" field. Example: if your email address is jwaterbury@sperryrail.com then your username will be jwaterbury@sperryrail.com
  13. Enter the supplied password in the "Password" field.
  14. Make sure "Remember Password" is checked.
  15. Single left click on the "More Settings" button
  16. Change the Mail account name to <youraccount>@Mail.SperryRail.com
  17. Single left click on the "Outgoing Server" Tab.
  18. Be sure that the settings are checked for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
  19. Single left click on the "Advanced" tab.
  20. Change the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" port number to 5533
  21. Single left click on "OK" button.
  22. Single left click on the "Next" button.
  23. Single left click on the "Finish" button.

The settings should now be correct for your new account.


Microsoft Outlook Express Users

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Drop down the "Tools" menu, and select "Accounts"
  3. Single left click "Add" then single left click "Mail"
  4. Enter you name in the "Display name" field then single left click "Next"
  5. Enter your full email address in the "Account name" field. Example: if your email address is jwaterbury@sperryrail.com then your username will be jwaterbury@sperryrail.com
  6. From the "My incoming mail server is a" drop down select "POP3"
  7. Enter mail.sperryrail.com in the Incoming mail (POP3,IMAP or HTTP) server" field
  8. Enter mail.sperryrail.com in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" field.
  9. Single left click on the "Next" button
  10. Enter your full email address in the "Account name" field. Example: if your email address is jwaterbury@sperryrail.com then your username will be jwaterbury@sperryrail.com
  11. Enter the supplied password in the "Password" field.
  12. Make sure "Remember Password" is checked.
  13. Single left click on the "Next" button
  14. Select "Do not import at this time" then single left click on the "Next" button
  15. Single left click on the "Finish" button
  16. Locate and double left click on the "mail.sperryrail.com" account shown in the "Internet accounts" window
  17. Single left click on the "Servers" tab.
  18. Single left click on the check box "My server requires authentication" to select it
  19. Single left click on the "Advanced" tab
  20. Change the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" port number to 5533
  21. Single left click on the "OK" button
  22. Close the "Internet accounts" window
  23. Close Outlook express

The settings should now be correct for your new account.
